Design Pash-Monique Gibson

January for me is historically a busy time for my Design business.  There is the big rush to get projects completed for the holidays in October and November always.  However in January once everyone takes down their Christmas decor, they often decide it is time for a facelift.  When I start new projects I look to Pinterest for inspiration. There always seems to be a project, or designer I have missed. Monique Gibson’s work has all of the qualities I adore. She effectively mingles the old and the new; the high and the low for a sophisticated collected union. She has done homes for Elton John, John Stewart, Meg Ryan, and John Mellencamp.  Some of my favorites are featured below.

I love a simple color scheme (especially black and white).  I know color is so ‘de rigeur’ now, but I  have yet to jump on that bandwagon.

I most often prefer texture over pattern. I always like a mix of the old and new for added character.  Monique is a master at this.

I never tire of black and white.  Love the sophisticated restraint shown here. You can check out my post-Black and White Decor Why It Works for why I love it so much.

Love black windows and doors.  I updated my own home with black windows and doors.  If you love the look check out my  Black Windows Pinterest Board .

The image below is from John Mellencamp’s South Carolina home.  How about that dining table? Love the masculine vibe.

Many of my clients are my age. Many have good art, collected accessories, and have “been there and done that” with too much color and pattern. You can read my posts on “Ten Tips for Achieving Timeless Interiors ” “The Collected Look and How to Get It”, “Over 55 Decor-Rethinking Your Space for the way you Live Now”.  How do you feel about texture versus color?  Are you loving all of the color in design right now, or do you prefer a more restrained pallet?

I agree Carla. It is always a pleasure finding someone whose work is so darn good! Thanks for stopping by! Looking forward to seeing you in L.A!

Thank you for wonderfully sophisticated , but liveable design. Love that you don’t eschew all the pattern and color that seem to be the choice now. Too much for many of us. Fine for some, but neutral is very calming and lasting.

    Cindy,
I too love this style (your style). It has a collected, not over-“decorated” look and that feels warm and welcoming. I’ll have to check out this designer. I haven’t heard of her, but some of the images look familiar.
    xo,

Wonderful post, and with little changes a whole new look in design style can revive a tired room. A new slip for a sofa, a few new throws and pillows and even swapping out art from one room to another.
I even like to strip down a furniture piece replacing a painted piece. I’ve given ironvand wood beds face lifts by painting them a new color and a new coverlet can change the effect of the whole bedroom.

Cindy, dont you just love Meg Ryan’s dine in kitchen here… that raw rustic planked table vertical with the bank of windows and built in open shelving? I just love it.

    Xx
