The E-design Process- How it Works

I intended to do a fashion post on a gorgeous coat from Artful Home but I have been so busy I am postponing that until next week.  Instead, I will do a quick post on what I am working on. I finished up an e-design in Tahoe and am hard at work on the Carmel Valley Project.

I have been doing more and more e-design so I thought it might be interesting for you to see the process and how it works.  E-design works well if you want to utilize my design skills but are willing to provide measurements, pictures, and needs and are willing to do your own shopping.  You also have the option of purchasing trade only items as your budget permits. I will provide a design plan and concept board.  When that is approved I will provide you with a list of products and where to buy them. Pricing depends on the scope of the project.

In this project below the client already owns the leather chairs and sofa.  She wants a new coffee table, lighting, and pillows.  She wants to recover two existing chairs and have a media cabinet made to cover the existing tv.  We are also working on the adjacent dining room.  She has nice curtains and furniture.  We are sprucing up what she has, adding cushions to existing chairs in a neutral perennials fabric and making a bench cushion for the bench.

This next project is one I just started.  These clients just purchased a new home with a few quirky issues (don’t all homes have them?).  I am guessing that whoever flipped the house added modern cabinetry in an attempt to update a more old-world Mediterranean style home.  The owner wants help pulling together the old world details with the modern cabinetry.  She wants a banquette area to provide more seating and needed storage and a more interesting island with counter stools. Right now she has a builder grade island that looks lost.  My suggestions include adding a table with a reclaimed wood top (with an iron base to tie in the black) and two chairs possibly these laredo leather chairs from Crate and Barrel.  They have a stylish look with a great price point. The banquette will have two or three drawers that match the modern black cabinetry. The light fixture is a trade only piece that can be ordered through me.

This reclaimed wood island from Crate and Barrel might work if not something similar could be built.  The backside is open for stools. The drawers provide more storage.  Baskets could be filled with utensils etc. and be kept out of view. I love these Roadhouse Leather Counter Stools from CB2.  I think they could be used with so many different styles. The hammered metal pendant lights are from Shades of Light.

That is what I am working on right now.  This is definitely my busy time of year. Follow me on Instagram @cindyhattersley for more updates. Be sure and stop back on Tuesday for a little fashion fun.

Please keep all of the fire victims in your thoughts and prayers.  So many have lost their businesses and homes.

I love the reclaimed wood island from C&B, and would love to try more unfitted pieces for our next kitchen (of course, there will be a ‘next’ kitchen…i’m a mover!). Best to you as you design for your lucky clients! xox

    Cindy,
I’ve prayed for both Northern California and parts of Southern California. Santa Rosa was devastated and it saddens me.
Your work is always so inspiring. I love the ideas you’ve placed on the picture boards, I can just imagine how lovely these items will be in place.
    xo,
    Karen

Looks so great, Cindy! That is a cool island. You are right about those CB2 leather stools being versatile. We are considering them for a house near the beach. I think I will drop by CB2 today and sit in one. Looking forward to your fashion post!

MAY I suggest she looks at mY SON’s SITE for reclaimed wooden tables!

He knows the TAHOE area well as he was a SKI instructor to little kids there one winter!
If one contacts him through his website the possibilities are endless!

THIS IS FABULOUS that YOU can design without being THERE!!!!!!!!
