A Taste of Fall

Are you in need of some easy fall decor ideas and a simple fall dinner?
I have been so busy with my work and my dad that I kind of just stumble by these days with my posts and decorating at home.  I did get Farmer’s Union decorated.  It is such a great space even I can hardly screw it up.  If you follow me on Instagram you have already seen some of these.  If you don’t please do!! All of these fabulous pumpkins came from Borchard Farms in Salinas if you are local. They have the best varieties and the best prices in the entire area. Thanks, Martha and Roxanne for the shout out.  It is worth the jauntThis olive bucket filled with cotton was already here.  I just added a few pumpkins.

Colin made these long boxes (design from our friend Steve Storm) out of old fence boards. They reside on the long tables and they are normally filled with succulents.  I added pumpkins, eucalyptus, moss, and twigs for fall.

The backdrop for these beauties is the original brick wall.  How can you go wrong with that for a backdrop?
This great bottle and carrier from Patine provides a great backdrop for these pumpkins also from Borchard Farms

If you are local this Wednesday Dave’s Oyster Shak and Grill will be at Farmer’s Union. I plan to be there!
Fall is not really evident in most places here on the Central Coast but the Vineyards provide us a glimpse of fall.  These Chualar Canyon vines caused me to pull my car over on the way home a few nights ago.

Even though our house and yard are in disarray I usually  find time to cook.  My dad likes to go to the Salinas Farmers Market so I used the yummy tomatoes and basil from my favorite vendor and whipped up a favorite of Steve’s Mac and Cheese.

4 ounces thick-sliced bacon
Olive Oil
Kosher salt
2 cups gemelli
1½ cups milk
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
4 ounces Gruyere cheese, grated
3 ounces extra-sharp Cheddar, grated
2 ounces blue cheese, such as Roquefort, crumbled
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
Pinch nutmeg
l basket heirloom cherry tomatoes
1 bunch fresh basil

If you are indulging in Mac and Cheese you have to eat a healthy salad, right?  For this simple salad, I use a bag of the mixed greens from the Farmers Market and fresh strawberries. I make a dressing (that is hard to beat) with these two ingredients (I kid you not) and salt and pepper.

I belong to the Pasolivo club.  This is not a paid post.  I absolutely LOVE their olive oils.  You can use this Sparkling Citrus Vinegar with any of their Citrus Olive Oils with just salt and pepper and make the most amazing dressing.

Happy Fall and I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed your comments on my trend post.  You guys really make my day.  I will be back on Friday with a Fashion Post.  Have a great week!  I so enjoy your comments!!

Pasolivo makes the best Spicy Italian Herb mix, I use it to make a crust on a pork tenderloin, yummy. I didn't know they had a club, I will have to check it out.

    Hi Cindy,
Steve's Mac & Cheese looks fabulous…did you include the Directions? Did I miss them? Would like to make this for Hubby! And, thanks for the heads up on the Paslivo!

Thanks for the fall decorating inspiration. I'm finally starting mine today. I discovered Pasolivo on our trip to Paso when we rented your home. Still enjoying the olive oil I purchased on that trip. Enjoy this lovely time of year.

What great pumpkins. Rogers Gardens gets some really amazing pumpkins and they only cost one entire paycheck! Hahaha. I will have to try to track down a good (and somewhat reasonable) source for pumpkins in Southern California.
The mac and cheese looks delicious…I may have to give your recipe a go this week.
    Thanks, Cindy!

I love the olive bucket. I also love the whole fall decorating theme, we really don't do it much here in Europe but I have made an effort this year, inspired by so many wonderful photos, like these, on various blogs, for the first time ever I have decorated with pumpkins in the kitchen!
